About Us

A solid track record on the development and application of technologies for modern Power Grids

eRoots was founded by Marc Cheah, Oriol Gomis, Eduardo Prieto and Jesús Fernández.

The main technologies offered by eRoots were developed by the CITCEA-UPC group, which is a research and technology transfer center  of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. CITCEA-UPC  is focused on developing solutions for modern power systems with high penetration of renewable energy and power electronics.

  • Oriol Gomis-Bellmunt received the degree in industrial engineering from the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB), Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2001 and the PhD in electrical engineering from the UPC in 2007 (with European Mention and Extraordinary Doctoral Prize). In 1999 he joined Engitrol where he worked as project engineer in the automation and control industry. In 2003 he developed part of his PhD thesis in the DLR (German Aerospace center) in Braunschweig (Germany). Since 2004 he is with the Electrical Engineering Department of the UPC where he is Professor and participates in the CITCEA-UPC research group. From 2009 to 2016 he was also with the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), where he was leader of the power systems group. He was one of the co-founders of TeknoCEA, a spin-off company from CITCEA-UPC Since 2020, he is an ICREA Academia Researcher. Since 2021 Prof Gomis is an IEEE Fellow Member.

  • Eduardo Prieto Araujo received the degree in industrial engineering from the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB), Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2011 and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the UPC in 2016. He also graduated from the InnoEnergy PhD School in 2016. Currently, he is Lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department at UPC and since 2010 he has been with CITCEA-UPC research group. During 2013, he took a four months temporary research position in Alstom Grid (UK) and during 2021 he was a visiting professor at the Automatic Control Laboratory (IfA), ETH Zürich. He is a senior member of IEEE and he is currently participating in CIGRE Working groups B4.70, B4.81, B4.84 (WG secretary) and B4.85 and B4.87, all related with HVDC converters and power systems.

  • Marc Cheah Mañé received the degree in industrial engineering from the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona (ETSEIB), Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2013, and the PhD degree in electrical engineering from Cardiff University, Cardiff, the U.K. in 2017. He obtained a PhD scholarship in Cardiff University as part of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Initial Training Network. During 2015, he did a four months research stay in Alstom Grid (UK) and during 2016 he moved for another research stay to Elia (Belgium). From 2017 to 2020, he was postdoctoral researcher at CITCEA-UPC and from 2018 to 2020 he has been also adjunct lecturer at the UPC. Since 2020 he is a lecturer with a Serra Hunter fellowship at the Electrical Engineering Department of the UPC and keeps his research activity within CITCEA-UPC.

  • Jesús Fernández Salido is a serial entrepreneur, who previous to co-founding eRoots Analytics, was the CEO for Spain of Swedish proptech startup MiMove.
